Question: Are there other laws that protect persons with disabilities?

Answer: Yes, a number of laws, in addition to the ADA, protect people with disabilities from discrimination in various contexts. For example, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 protects workers people with disabilities from against disability discrimination, and requires reasonable accommodation, if they are employed by a federal contractors, or by the Executive Branch of the federal government, and by people, companies, and organizations that receive financial assistance from the Federal government. This law also requires federal contractors to take affirmative action forto hire and promote people with disabilities.

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) forbids disability discrimination and requires reasonable accommodation by the One-Stop Career Center system, as well as by certain people, government agencies, companies, and organizations that are connected with that system. Other Federal laws protect people with disabilities in other contexts.
