Norm's Statement in Support of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Bill
10/3/2008 – Amid the sharp debate over the emergency economic stabilization bill being considered this week in Congress we have heard dire predictions from both extremes warning of a financial Armageddon if we don’t approve the bill or of squandering billions of taxpayer dollars if we do.  Beyond the intense rhetoric though, there is a growing body of evidence of serious impacts in every American community this month as the shrinking credit market has already affected consumers’ ability to buy cars, purchase inventory for their businesses, afford college loans and obtain home mortgages.

Defense Bill Language Will Assure Review of Airbus Subsidies
9/24/2008 – Specific language contained in the final version of the Defense Authorization bill approved today by the House of Representatives will assure that the next competition for the Air Force’s refueling tankers will take into account launch subsidies provided to Airbus aircraft by the consortium’s European partners, U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks said Wednesday.

9/20/2008 – Congressman Norm Dicks attended the ribbon cutting of the new Lakewood Station parking garage and transit center. 9/15/2008 – At a Capitol Hill ceremony on Sept. 15th Rep. Dicks received the first USGS Leadership Award from the national coalition that supports the U.S. Geological Survey’s scientific research and information sharing work.   Coalition Co-Chair Dr. Craig Schiffries cited Rep. Dicks’ career-long advocacy of good science as the foundation for governmental decisions relating to land management and natural resource policy.

Norm Test Drives New Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle
9/11/2008 – Ed Cohen, Honda North America Vice President of Government and Industry Affairs, brought the Honda FCX Clarity to Capitol Hill for a demonstration of the capability of fuel cell powered automobiles.  As Congress is debating an energy bill that seeks to reduce our dependence on imported oil, Norm had the opportunity to experience first-hand this new technology that uses zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell in this all-electric car that gets the equivalent of 79 miles per gallon.

Area School Receives Science Award
9/9/2008 – Rep. Dicks meets with representatives from Key Peninsula Middle School in Lakebay, who were in the Nation’s Capital on Sept. 8th to receive a “Schools of Distinction” Award as part of a nationwide math and science competition sponsored by the Intel Corporation. Schools receiving the awards, which consist of $10,000 in addition products and services from competition sponsors, are commended for developing an environment and curricula that meet or exceed national mathematics and science content standards and other benchmarks.
