The Laboratory will be recognized at a United Way of Santa Fe County awards reception on Tuesday (May 17) in Santa Fe.
"Our Los Alamos employees can take pride in this accomplishment," said Richard Marquez, Los Alamos' associate director for administration. Marquez was chairperson for the recent giving campaign. "Once again, Laboratory personnel have shown through their generosity that their community is important to them and that they are eager to help those around them."
"The growing strength of the relationship between the Laboratory and United Way of Santa Fe County is something we're very happy about," said Katherine Freeman, United Way of Santa Fe County president and chief executive officer. "The donations will be used to help children learn and grow, encourage self-sufficiency, provide services to the elderly and promote health and healing."
The 2004 United Way of Santa Fe County campaign raised about $1.2 million.
The most recent Los Alamos/Northern New Mexico United Way campaign raised $1.1 million.
The Laboratory's 2006 United Way giving campaign is scheduled to begin in September.
