Director recognizes Distinguished Performance Award winners

October 6, 2008

Laboratory Director Michael Anastasio, left, recognizes Alejandro (Alex) Enriquez and his daughter Sofia during the Laboratory's Distinguished Performance Awards reception last week. Enriquez of Pu238 Science and Technology (PMT-5) won an individual award for his efforts clearing waste from Room 201B of Technical Area 55's PF-4 and recovering the room for programmatic operations. Enriquez's innovative cleanup and inventory process resulted in a safer work environment for PMT-5 employees and greater efficiency in disposing of Pu-238 residue.

Bottom photo: Anastasio, far left, congratulates one of the small team winners, the Gloveport Retrofit Installation Team that includes (left to right) Michael Cournoyer, David Rael, Toby Vigil, and Dean Martinez (pictured) along with Vincent Griego and Anthony Valdez who were recognized for their work designing an improved gloveport for existing PF-4 gloveboxes at TA-55. Working with a vendor, the team built and installed the new design at TA-55. Their change dramatically reduces the risk of contamination when worn-out gloves are replaced, making replacement simpler and more efficient.
