Welcome teachers, educators, and students! Keweenaw National Historical Park has a lot of information available to you for use in your classroom. The park is also developing curriculum for high school students so check back frequently.

Industrial and Downtown Calumet Self-Guided Booklets
These booklets contain maps, photos, and general information that guide visitors, school groups, and educators to the resources of the Calumet Unit of the park. To download lower resolution Adobe pdfs of these booklets, see the hightligh links to the right. You can also purchase printed versions of these booklets from the Isle Royale and Keweenaw Parks Association bookstore.

Park Brochure
The park brochure is an excellent resource for getting an overview of the area's copper mining history. It contains illustrations, photos, text and park maps. Download an Adobe pdf of the brochure here (caution: 5.85 MB file) or you can request that a copy be mailed to you.
 
Copper Mining History Timeline
This web-based version of an exhibit at the park information desk located at the Quincy Mine Gift Shop provides a historic overview of the copper mining story of the Keweenaw Peninsula. See highlight link to the right.
 
Park Overview Powerpoint
Teachers can request a CD of this 45-minute presentation which provides an overview of the copper mining history of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The slide show contains both historic and present day images and includes information about Keweenaw National Historical Park. To request a copy, call Kathleen Harter, Chief of Interpreation and Education at (906) 337-1104, ext. 132.
 
Fourth Thursday in History
Attend monthly Fourth Thursday in History presentations to learn more about the area's natural and cultural history. Topics and locations vary. All programs are free and last about an hour. For more information on an upcoming program, visit our Schedule of Events page.
 
Isle Royale and Keweenaw Parks Association
Teachers receive a 20% discount on any item purchased with a valid school ID. Sales outlets are located at the park headquarters building in Calumet and the Isle Royale National Park Visitor Center in Houghton. You can also order items through their online bookstore or call 1-800-678-6925.

Did You Know?
Alexander Agassiz, President of Calumet & Hecla Mining Company from 1871 to 1910, was the son of famed naturalist and Harvard professor, Louis Agassiz. Alexander's interest in copper mining was to fund his scientific travels. He became a specialist in marine ichthyology - the study of fish.
