                 **CENSUS BUREAU MEDIA ADVISORY**
                                
                Census Bureau to Brief Reporters on 
                Fiscal Year 2003 Budget Initiatives

What: The Census Bureau will hold an audio news conference to brief news
      media on its Fiscal Year 2003 budget submission to Congress, and to 
      discuss innovative plans to provide new and important data about the 
      nation's people and economy.

When: Monday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. EST

Who:  William G. Barron Jr., Census Bureau acting director
      Frederick T. Knickerbocker, associate director for Economic Programs
      Thomas L. Mesenbourg, assistant director for Economic Programs
      Preston Jay Waite, associate director for Decennial Census

  Reporters may participate via telephone conference call. To take part by
phone, call toll free 800-988-9610 after 1:50 p.m. EST. Password: Census.
      
  An electronic press kit will be available on the embargoed web site at
http://www.census.gov/dcmd/www/embargo/embargo.html around 1:30 p.m. 
Members of the media are strongly encouraged to download the press kit
