Armed Forces Services Corporation (AFSC) has a 100+ year legacy of revolutionary services for military personnel, veterans and families. AFSC’s reputation for revolutionary breakthroughs in health and human services, has been recognized by leaders throughout Congress, DoD, VA and top advocacy groups. AFSC delivers services and technology that combine the highest possible quality and accuracy, with an unparalleled understanding and compassion for the needs of the warrior.  Today’s AFSC offers a wide range of services which enhance the quality of life for over one million service members and veterans.

                                   AFSC LEADING THE WAY…
As one of the nation’s oldest and most respected experts in military health and human services, AFSC continues to be a leader for change. In 2006 AFSC established a national network of thought leaders from government, academia and business, who together have identified several ways to drive major improvements in the systems that support the health and wellbeing of our service members and veterans. Since before the Washington Post expose on Walter Reed, AFSC has been actively engaged in many of the leading efforts to improve DOD and VA services:

AFSC Launches National R & D Laboratory
AFSC has been awarded the contract to manage the Veterans’ Coalition Innovation Center – a state-of-the-art R&D Laboratory designed to dramatically accelerate innovation in veterans’ services. America cares tremendously about our veterans, and spends billions of dollars every year to support veterans through various government and non-profit programs.  But these resources often become quickly outdated as the needs of veterans continue to change, and as external breakthroughs in science, technology and medicine occur.  A coalition founded by the nation’s five largest Veterans’ Service Organizations, has launched The Veterans’ Coalition Innovation Center (VIC) that applies best-in-class industry models to veterans’ research and development.  It is engineered to dramatically accelerate improvement in veterans’ services, and is already delivering on that promise.

ARMY Launches Online Soldiers’ Benefit Services Program - Armed Forces Services Corporation (AFSC) has teamed with Serco, Inc to deliver Soldiers' Benefit Services (SBS) to the US Army G1. For the first time, SBS provides Soldiers with a unique, one stop, comprehensive, and personalized program to find all of their updated federal and state benefits, plan for their family’s future, determine their disability retirement income, and care for their family, should they die while serving their country on active duty. The program has four major components: The MyArmyBenefits website, the Army Wounded Warrior (AW2) Disability Assistance Module, the Casualty Module, and a Help Desk that supports these activities.  Click here for more program information.

AFSC Attends White House Conference on Military Youth - President G. Deutsch was invited to attend a recent panel hosted by First Lady Laura Bush to discuss how America can best support the unique needs of military children.  RADM S. Frank Gallo, (USN), member of AFSC’s Board of Directors was also present,  and presented an overview of programs provided through the Armed Forces YMCA.

AFSC President meets with President George W. Bush
- AFSC President and CEO Geoff J. Deutsch met with President Bush at the White House to celebrate veterans’ service to America. Several interesting ideas were shared regarding how to better serve the veteran community.

AFSC presents to President's Commission on Care for Returning Wounded Warriors - AFSC President & CEO Geoff Deutsch accepted an invitation to brief former HHS Secretary Donna Shalala on needed improvements in America’s support of the Service Disabled. Deutsch discussed several issues, including improved medical and mental health care and related policy decisions where White House leadership is needed.

VA Commission - AFSC Director Robert Phifer attended the recent VA Committee meetings sponsored by VA Secretary Nicholson to improve services to disabled veterans. Phifer and other AFSC colleagues have met privately with many of the commission members to discuss ways in which our research shows the VA could enhance their services.

AFSC meets Secretary of Army – AFSC’s President attended an all day meeting that included several senior Army leaders, to discuss improvements to services for wounded soldiers. While there is more to be done, Army Medical Command is moving quickly on a series of important initiatives in this area.

AFSC meets Veterans Services Organization’s Commission on the Future for America’s Veterans - This commission is doing very thoughtful work on the long term needs and fixes for America’s veteran support systems, and includes several prestigious leaders including past VA Secretaries. AFSC’s President shared several of the ideas coming from AFSC’s national team of experts, and believes that the groups may have several opportunities to work collaboratively towards common goals.

Meeting with Senator Obama - At a recent Congressional luncheon on behalf of surviving military spouses, AFSC Family Assistance Specialist Jennifer Boster was thanked by Senator Barack Obama for her wonderful work supporting surviving GWOT widows/widowers with her expert counseling and advocacy.

AFSC recently recognized for their support of Severely Injured Sailors and Marines (SIMS) program - At a recent luncheon, AFSC was publically thanked by the Department of the Navy for its central role in supporting Severely Injured Marines and Sailors. The Department of the Navy hailed SIMS program as the best example they’ve seen of coordinating across several government programs.
