Family Support Network

Sustaining and Strengthening Families

About the Family Support Network:
For thousands of disabled American Veterans, the experience of lying alone in a hospital bed for months at a time can be devastating. Moreover, their families often have to abandon their jobs to be by their side during recovery. It’s not only the heroes who recover, but their family too. The Family Support Network provides a wide array of activities and aid to the families of the wounded during their recovery.

Family Hosting
The expenses involved with a family member staying by their loved one's side during his/her recovery often times puts too much financial strain on a family. The Coalition’s Family Support Network has resources that will provide housing in private homes and hotels for free or at significantly discounted costs. Reduced cost meals and airline flights are also available to assist with traveling expenses. Families don’t have to go bankrupt to be together during a hero's recovery.

Tour the Town
A breath of fresh air can be just what the doctor ordered. For recuperating wounded at military hospitals, the Coalition arranges special outings. These trips to places such as sporting events, entertainment parks, and shows boost morale and break the boredom of the routine of recuperation. See pictures.

Staying in Touch
In this electronic age, communication is increasingly taking place by means of computer. Email, instant messaging, and even phones over computer lines are all coming of age. CSAH has provided hundreds of computers to service members and their families to make sure that they can communicate with each other, network, and have access to all the opportunities that being “online” affords.

Making the Adjustment
Once you’re home, where do you begin? The daily challenges are so overwhelming you might not even know where to start. Start by arranging for a Hero Coach Counselor. The Coalition has a group of experienced individuals who will work one-on-one with wounded veterans to provide them the counseling, encouragement and everyday life-coaching they need to figure things out. They're right there with them to make sure they aren't just settling for “getting by.” Hero Coach Counselors make sure our brave heroes make it to the point where they have a genuinely fulfilling life.
