Scope of Practice
Body piercing technicians perform piercing services, including earlobe piercing, in licensed facilities. Body piercing technicians must be registered and adhere to stringent universal precautions for sterilization of needles and equipment, biohazard waste disposal and infection control practices formulated to state and national standards.

Education & Training
Applicants must:
  1. Be at least 18 years old

  2. Be a high school graduate or equivalent

  3. Complete training in basic first aid, blood-borne pathogens and aftercare procedures (For a list of providers, click here to go to the Forms page.)

Application
Applicants must pay a $10 application fee and provide all of the required practitioner application materials.  Once all application materials are processed and verified, the applicant must pay an annual registration fee of $25.
 
Applicants applying for a facility license must submit a completed application with a fee of $150.  Facilities must meet requirements of OAR 331-210-0000.  Annual fee for a facility license is $275.

Examination
There is no examination requirement for body piercing technicians.

Renewal Process
Facility licenses and practitioner registrations expire one year from date of issuance.  The fee to renew a facility license is $275.  The renewal fee for a practitioner registration is $25.
 
The fee for facility license renewal after license expiration increases to $300 within the first year of expired status.  The fee for technician registration renewal increases to $35 within the first year of expired status.
