Media Note Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC February 25, 2008 Media Registration for the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference, March 4-6Agriculture, Energy, Environment, and Foreign ministers from more than 100 countries will gather at the Washington Convention Center March 4-6 to discuss ways to spur future renewable energy development. The Departments of State, Energy, Agriculture, Commerce, Interior, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the United States Agency for International Development, and the White House Council on Environmental Quality, are pleased to host the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC) 2008.
WIREC 2008 is the third global ministerial-level conference on renewable energy, following events in Beijing in 2005 and Bonn in 2004. WIREC 2008 will bring together government, civil society and private business leaders to address the benefits and costs of a major and rapid scale-up in the global deployment of renewable energy technology. WIREC 2008 will include a global ministerial-level meeting, a trade show and a business conference, and official side events. The Ministerial-level meetings will ensure time for participants to tour the separately managed, but co-located, trade show/expo and business conference and for networking. Registration Journalists will need media credentials to access all WIREC 2008 events, including the Trade Show and official side events. To avoid delays, please complete and submit the application available online at the following URL by Wednesday, February 27, 2008; http://www.wirec2008.gov/documents/Media_Registration_Form.pdf Look for a registration confirmation from the U.S. Energy Association, the U.S. government contractor handling these applications, via email. Journalists are required to bring their existing media credentials issued by a government body along with an existing government-issued ID with them to WIREC.
