U.S. Contact with Pakistan’s Major Political Leaders

Question:   Has U.S. Ambassador Anne Patterson contacted any of Pakistan’s party leaders during the recent parliamentary elections? Has there been U.S. dialogue with President Musharraf?

Answer:   As the official representative to the President, Ambassador Patterson has held discussions regularly with members of all major political parties and Pakistani officials to express our support for a fully democratic Pakistan. U.S. Embassy officials have been in contact with all major political leaders and the Government of Pakistan throughout the election process.
