15th Session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development April 30-May 11, 2007

Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky is traveling to New York to lead the U.S. Delegation to the Ministerial Segment of the 15th Session of the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development, May 9-11. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment and Sustainable Development, Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Dan Reifsnyder will also participate during the High Level Segment.

As the concluding session of the Commission's two-year focus on energy issues, the meeting will emphasize the critical linkage between access to modern energy and the three pillars of sustainable development; economic growth, social development, and environmental stewardship. Both Under Secretary Dobriansky and Deputy Assistant Secretary Reifsnyder will participate in events with governments, civil society, and the private sector designed to highlight practical and proven energy solutions that can be scaled up and replicated across the globe.

For more information about U.S. engagement in the 15th Session of the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development and in energy partnerships and initiatives, please visit the U.S. government's Sustainable Development Partnership website at www.sdp.gov.

The UN Commission on Sustainable Development's next two-year cycle (2007-2009) will concentrate on Agriculture, Rural Development, Land Use, Drought, Desertification, and Africa.
