Press Statement Tom Casey, Deputy Spokesman Washington, DC September 6, 2007 U.S. Calls for End to Violence in Democratic Republic of the CongoThe United States continues to monitor closely the situation in North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DROC) and calls on all leaders to stop the violence which continues to threaten innocent lives and displace thousands of civilians.
We welcome the September 2-4 meetings in Kinshasa between Foreign Minister Murigande of Rwanda and Foreign Minister Mbusa Nyamwisi as a positive step toward normalizing relations between the two nations. We commend both sides for committing to greater cooperation in their joint communiqué. We call on both sides to implement the agreements as quickly as possible. The United States will stand with these two neighbors to support their efforts for the future of their region. 2007/734 |
