Assistant Secretary of State Jendayi Frazer to Host the Africa Education Forum

On Tuesday, September 19, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi E. Frazer will host the Africa Education Forum in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Forum will build upon the White House Conference on Global Literacy taking place today, September 18, and focus on the education of women and girls. The approximately thirty invitees are mainly African first ladies, some of whom will be accompanied by their education ministers. The Forum will offer them an opportunity to discuss best practices and establish a continuing dialogue among themselves, private organizations, and the United States .

Presenters include Assistant Secretary Frazer; Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Carol J. Thompson; and Dr. Sarah Moten, U.S. Agency for International Development, Office of Sustainable Development, Africa Bureau; Yolanda Richardson, President and CEO of the Center for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA). Education experts will also participate.

The Forum will be closed to press, but participants will be available afterward for interviews. There will be a camera spray at the opening.
