Established by Secretary Shultz in 1985, the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) is a public/private partnership to foster cooperation and the exchange and the exchange of security information between the U.S. Government and the U.S. private sector operating overseas.

The 22^nd meeting of OSAC will meet from November 14-15 at the U.S. Department of State. Over 800 representatives from American business, American educational institutions, and U.S. Government agencies that operate overseas will attend. This year's briefing will focus on the "Security Consequences of Globalization." Other speakers will include Mark Cheviron, Corporate Vice President for Security and Service, Archer Daniels Midland Company; Dr. John J. DeGioia, President, Georgetown University; and Ambassador John K. Veroneau, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

Currently, more than 28,000 constituent organizations participate in OSAC including businesses, religious groups, universities and colleges, and other non-governmental organizations. OSAC and the private sector share information about crime, terrorism, and other factors - political, economic, and social - that affect the security environment for business globally and in individual countries around the world.
