ACTION: Notice. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This notice announces a forthcoming meeting of a public advisory committee of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The meeting will be open to the public. Name of Committee: Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies Advisory Committee. General Function of the Committee: To provide advice and recommendations to the agency on FDA's regulatory issues. Agenda: The committee will discuss the following: (1) Risk assessments for potential exposure to the variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) agent in plasma products, (2) possible vCJD risk from investigational coagulation Factor XI manufactured in the 1990s from plasma of donors residing in the United Kingdom, and (3) potential deferral of blood and plasma donors for history of transfusion in France and other European countries. Procedure: Interested persons may present data, information, or views, orally or in writing, on issues pending before the committee. Written submissions may be made to the contact person by February 1, 2005. Oral presentations from the public will be scheduled between approximately 11:50 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., 3:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and 4:15 p.m. and 4:35 p.m. Time allotted for each presentation may be limited. Those desiring to make formal oral presentations should notify the contact person before February 3, 2005, and submit a brief statement of the general nature of the evidence or arguments they wish to present, the names and addresses of proposed participants, and an indication of the approximate time requested to make their presentation.
