Charlotte, NC – Domingo Lopez-Avaloy, a
24-year-old from Honduras, was arrested early
yesterday, October 2nd, at his apartment in Charlotte, NC. Domingo Lopez-Avaloy
was the
only one of four suspects still wanted in connection with the 2004
kidnapping and sexual
assault of a 12 year old female at the Heatherwood Apartments in Aurora.
Investigators from the Fugitive Location and
Apprehension Group (FLAG) in Colorado were
working with America’s Most Wanted to profile Lopez-Avaloy on their show
when a review of
the case turned up an arrest in Charlotte this year. Lopez-Avaloy had been
arrested in
February under the alias David Reyez Lopez, and gave police a different date
of birth. A
photograph of David Reyez Lopez was matched to the photograph of Lopez-Avaloy
and a
fingerprint comparison proved to be the final piece of the puzzle. Acting on
a lead from FLAG,
investigators from the U.S. Marshals’ Hornet’s Nest Fugitive Task Force in
North Carolina
researched numerous addresses and finally zeroed in on where Lopez-Avaloy
was living with
his girlfriend. At approximately 6 a.m. yesterday morning, investigators
from the Hornet’s Nest
Task Force arrested Lopez-Avaloy without incident. He is currently being
held at the
Mecklenberg County Jail awaiting extradition to Colorado.
FLAG is a multi-agency fugitive task force
comprised of investigators from the U.S. Marshals,
Denver Police, Aurora Police, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, the
Jefferson County
Sheriff’s Office, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado
Department of
Corrections. FLAG coordinates the annual “50 Most Wanted” Round-Up and
maintains a web
page of Colorado’s twenty most wanted fugitives at
www.colorado20mostwanted.com.
