Roanoke, VA - The suspect in the city’s
11th homicide of the year was captured by a dedicated team of task force
officers led by the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force
(CARFTF) based out of Roanoke Thursday afternoon. Deandre Miller, 20, of
Roanoke was captured by a swarm of task force officers outside an apartment
building in Jamestown Village on Queen Ann Drive in southeast Roanoke around
4 pm without incident. Miller is
suspected of shooting Derrick Patrick Hobson, also 20, in the 500 block of
Madison Avenue shortly after 3 pm on September 25, 2008. Hobson was rushed
to Roanoke Memorial Hospital in critical condition and died later that
evening. Roanoke Police officers and the Marshals task force had been
searching for Miller since the shooting and tracked him to the apartment
building where he was arrested.
Miller was arrested on the original charges
of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Additional charges are anticipated pending a review by the Roanoke
Commonwealths Attorney. He is being held at the Roanoke City Jail.
The Roanoke Police Department has been an
active participant with the Marshals task force for several years. A
partnership of local, state and federal officers led by the U.S. Marshals
Service, the task force is dedicated to protecting the citizens of Virginia
and beyond by removing dangerous fugitives from our streets and communities.
The involvement of federal resources ensures that fugitives have fewer
places to hide and task force efforts continue to be a tremendous success,
both nationally and internationally.
