U.S. Marshals Task Force Reaches Out to Virginia to Capture
Youngstown Attempted Murder Suspect

Elliot, U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio, announces that on Tuesday, September 30th, the U.S. Marshals in Charlottesville, VA, apprehended Rudolph Matland III (age 27) at a residence in Stuarts Draft, VA, based on an urgent request from the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. The Youngstown Police Department wanted Matland for an incident that occurred the early morning of September 30th, where he allegedly forced his way into his estranged wife’s residence and assaulted her.

The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force received the request for assistance and immediately began to hunt down Matland. The investigation developed information that Matland immediately fled to Virginia where he was ultimately located and apprehended by the U.S. Marshals. Matland is facing charges of attempted murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, aggravated burglary and domestic violence. He is currently being housed at the Augusta County Jail in Virginia, awaiting extradition to Ohio.

Youngstown Police Chief Jimmy Hughes states, “Hard work and efforts such as this go a long way to help keep the streets safe in Youngstown. Those that commit these violent offenses need to know that they will not escape the long arm of the law.”
