United States Marshals and ICE Officers
Capture Mexican Homicide Suspect |
|
Phoenix, AZ – Yesterday afternoon Deputy
U.S. Marshals and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers captured
Heraclio Guevara-Juarez, 31, in the area of Palo Verde Rd and Broadway Rd in
Buckeye. Guevara-Juarez, a Mexican national, was wanted in Zacatecas, Mexico
for three counts of Armed Robbery, two counts of Homicide and Escape.
In 2005 warrants were issued by Mexican authorities from Zacatecas for the
arrest of Guevara-Juarez. This stemmed from an incident in which, by his own
admission, Guevara-Juarez was arrested after committing numerous armed
robberies of Mexican businesses. After being arrested Guevara-Juarez was
able to escape from police custody killing two police officers. It is
believed that Guevara-Juarez then fled Mexico and was attempting to hide in
the United States. During the course of the fugitive investigation Deputies
determined that Guevara-Juarez had assumed the identity of one of his family
members, who was residing in Mexico. Guevara-Juarez had also obtained
employment and was residing at a large dairy farm in Buckeye.
Yesterday afternoon Guevara-Juarez was located at the dairy farm, at which
time he was arrested without incident for being in the United States
illegally. This arrest was a result of a joint investigation conducted by
the U.S. Marshals, ICE Office of Detention and Removal Operations, and the
Maricopa County Attorneys Office. Guevara-Juarez has been deported from the
United States on six previous occasions. Guevara-Juarez voluntarily returned
to Mexico where he was turned over to the Agencia Federal de Investigatcion
(AFI) at the Nogales Port of Entry.
United States Marshal David Gonzales praised the work of Deputies and law
enforcement officers adding, “Regardless of a person’s immigration status,
it should be known that if you are a fugitive and decide to hide in Arizona,
we will find you and bring you to justice. An outstanding investigation
coordinated between the Mexican authorities, our Mexican Investigative
Liaison Unit and ICE resulted in a career criminal being taken off our
streets.”
