A
fugitive wanted by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department and the Georgia
State Board of Pardons and Paroles was arrested by the U.S. Marshals
Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police
K-9 Unit, and Savannah Impact officers on May 20, 2008 in Savannah, GA.
Larry Jiles, 21, was being sought on a warrants issued in Jasper County,
South Carolina charging him with three Armed Robberies and two charges of
Possession of a weapon by a Felon that occurred on November 19, 2007. Jiles
is also charged by the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Parole with Parole
Violation that stemmed from a previous 2004 Possession of Marijuana charge.
The case was referred to the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task
Force to help locate and arrest this subject. Numerous leads were worked by
the Savannah Marshals’ Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. The
investigation lead the Marshals Task Force to the area of 34th and
Montgomery Street in Savannah, GA. The task force members observed a black
male fitting the description of Jiles walking on 34th Street. The suspect
was then seen entering a dark colored Honda Accord and Task Force members
followed the vehicle to the area of Anderson Street and Bee Road. The
Marshals Task Force members, with the assistance of SCMPD K-9, and Savannah
Impact members, initiated a traffic stop and pulled Jiles from the passenger
side of the vehicle. The driver was not arrested. Jiles was taken to the
Chatham County Jail to await disposition of the Parole Violation Charge and
to await extradition to South Carolina.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the
apprehension of approximately 36,000 federal fugitives. More federal
fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal
agencies combined.The Savannah Office
of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of law
enforcement officers from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham
County Sheriff=s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police
Department, and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective
is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug
crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. Last year, U.S. Marshals task
forces arrested more than 58,600 state and local fugitives on felony
charges.
