Atlanta,
GA – At approximately 12:30
p.m., on April 30, 2008, investigators from the U.S. Marshals
Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Reuben Levy, 35.
During the arrest, a USMS investigator in fear for his life fired at
Levy as he was being dragged through the Rite Aid parking lot by
Levy’s vehicle.
Levy attempted to flee using the motor
vehicle and led investigators on a short but high speed chase only
to be captured less than 2 miles from the original location. Levy
was located hiding in a shed and was non-compliant at the time of
his arrest.
After his arrest, Levy was treated by EMS
and transferred to a local hospital, is stable and being treated for
a gunshot wound. The injured Deputy U.S. Marshal has also been
taken to a local hospital and is currently in good condition. Levy
was wanted for a federal violation of his probation, as well as
aggravated assault with a weapon and two counts of grand larceny by
Richmond County, SC.
The U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional
Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) is a team comprised of law enforcement
officers from the United States Marshal, as well as, 27 other local,
state and federal agencies. The task force’s objective is to seek
out and arrest the regions most violent offenders. Since the
inception of the task force in September of 2003, the SERFTF has
closed over 11,300 felony warrants. Annually, more fugitives are
arrested by U.S. Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.
