U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests New Orleans
Murder Suspect in Sulphur, LA |
|
On the afternoon of January 24, 2008, the U.S.
Marshals Service Western District of Louisiana Fugitive Apprehension Strike
Team (FAST) with assistance from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and
the Lake Charles City Police Department arrested New Orleans Police
Department murder suspect, Dominick Allen, 23 years old, in the 1000 block
of Alice St. Sulphur, Louisiana based on a collateral lead sent by the U.S.
Marshals Service Eastern District of Louisiana Crescent Star Fugitive Task
Force (CSFTF). Allen has been featured on several occasions in the New
Orleans Time Picayune newspaper’s Metropolitan Crime Commission (MCC)
“Wanted by the Law” feature. Allen was also wanted by the LA Department of
Corrections on a parole violations warrant (original charge: possession of
cocaine).
The offense occurred on November 25, 2007, in the 10700 block of Roger Drive
New Orleans, LA. The victim, Sheldon Dean, 28 years old, was shot during
what the New Orleans Police Department believe to have been an armed robbery
at Dean’s apartment. Dominick Allen and Gerald Nickles, 25 years old, were
developed as the suspects in the incident. Dean died on December 14, 2007,
at University Hospital as a result of the shooting. The charges/warrants on
both suspects were upgraded to first degree murder as well as the armed
robbery.
The case was referred to CSFTF by the New Orleans Police Department in early
January 2008. Investigators from the task force developed information that
Allen might be staying with a relative in the Lake Charles area. A request
from CSFTF was forwarded to the W/LA FAST and they responded to the 1000
block of Alice St., Sulphur, LA. After a brief surveillance, FAST members
observed Allen entering the residence. He was arrested without incident and
booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail on the New Orleans warrants.
Eastern District of Louisiana U.S. Marshal Michael Credo stated, “The
relationships that the U.S. Marshals Service has developed with local,
state, and federal law enforcement agencies is critical to the success of
our mission. However, we need the public’s assistance as well to locate
Allen’s co-defendant, Gerald Emanuel Nickles. Nickles has also been profiled
in the “Wanted by the Law” feature. He is an African American male 25 years
old, approximately 5'08" weighting 163 pounds. He has prior convictions for
manslaughter and possession of stolen property. He should be considered
armed and dangerous. There is a reward being offered by both the
Metropolitan Crime Commission and the U.S. Marshals Service for information
leading to his arrest and all information provided is anonymous. Contact
CSFTF at (504) 589-6079.”
The U.S. Marshals Service sponsors fugitive task forces across the U.S.
