James M. Wahlrab,
United States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, announces
the arrest of Jayvone Pickens. Pickens was wanted by the Anderson
County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina for a murder that occurred
in 2002. Since that time, Pickens has been on the run.
Last week, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office turned up the heat
and began profiling the case with the local media. The Anderson
County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the United
States Marshals Service in locating and apprehending Pickens.
According to the warrant, Pickens is alleged to have got into a
dispute over some money with Jernovous Mattison, Pickens then shot
and killed Mattison.
After the profile aired in the local media, the U.S. Marshals
Service in Greenville, South Carolina received information from a
source who stated that Pickens was in the Dayton, Ohio area. The
fugitive hunting, multi-agency task force known as the Southern Ohio
Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) which is led by the U.S.
Marshals Service, immediately accepted the case.
Through investigative leads developed by the Marshals, Pickens was
tracked down at approximately 9:30 this morning. Pickens was found
hiding in the attic of 517 Woodward Drive in Dayton. Also arrested
was Thomas Snowden for obstruction of justice. A forced entry had to
be made into the residence where both were arrested. Inside the
residence was a closed circuit television which viewed the front
porch, a loaded shotgun and a loaded revolver.
Both Pickens and Snowden were transported to the Montgomery County
Jail where Pickens will await extradition back to South Carolina.
The U.S. Marshals Service was America’s first federal law
enforcement agency and each year arrests more fugitives than all
other federal law enforcement agencies combined. |
