Suspected Gang Member Wanted For Slaying
of Iraq Vet Captured |
Atlanta, GA - At approximately 4:00pm on November 7, 2007,
investigators from the U.S. Marshals Service’s Southeast Regional
Fugitive Task Force, the Atlanta Police Department and the ATF VCIT
arrested Daquan Stevens.
Stevens was named in a 39 count indictment that included seven
murders and multiple armed robberies. One of the murders that
Stevens was charged with was the murder of Iraq war veteran, Ryan
Harmon. Harmon, 24, was shot and killed by assault rifle fire in
April of 2006 as he was driving through downtown Atlanta. After the
shooting, his vehicle was found riddled with bullets.
Mamadou Barry was another victim of the gang; suffocating after
having a plastic bag pulled over his head during an armed robbery.
On Friday November 2, 2007 members of the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast
Regional Fugitive Task Force began working on the hunt for Stevens.
On the morning of November 7, 2007, after an exhaustive multi-day
hunt, investigators developed information that he was in the Decatur
area. Further investigation led investigators to an apartment
complex near the intersection of Flat Shoals Rd and I-285.
The USMS SERFTF, the Atlanta Police Department and the ATF VCIT then
established an aggressive surveillance in the area. Later in the
afternoon, investigators located the apartment where they believed
Steven would be located. This was further confirmed when
investigators observed the fugitives girlfriend arrive and depart
the target apartment.
At approximately, 4:00pm investigators were forced to make entry
into the apartment where they were able to safely arrest Stevens
without incident.
The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) is a team
comprised of law enforcement officers from the United States
Marshals, as well as, more than two dozen other local, state and
federal agencies. The task force’s objective is to seek out and
arrest the regions most violent offenders. Since the inception of
the task force in September of 2003, the SERFTF has closed over
11,200 felony investigations. Annually, more fugitives are arrested
by U.S. Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.
