Atlanta, GA - At
approximately 6:00pm on May 31, 2007, investigators from the U.S.
Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Cobb
County Sheriff’s Office, the Atlanta Police Department and the
Fulton County Police Department arrested Eduardo Vega, 27. Vega was
wanted by the Fulton County Police Department for a carjacking and
shoot out with police that occurred yesterday
(May 31, 2007).
On May 31, 2007 at approximately 1:30pm, investigators believe that
Vega carjacked a woman on Fulton Industrial Blvd by pointing a gun
at her infant’s head and ordering the passengers from the vehicle.
The carjacking was witnessed by a plain clothes Atlanta Police
Officer and responded to by Fulton County Police Officers. When
initially approached Vega is believed to have fired on the plain
clothes officer. After firing, Vega rammed one of the Fulton County
Police vehicles and then fled into the wood line where he was able
to evade capture.
On the afternoon of May 31, 2007, investigators developed
information that Vega may be in the Cobb County area. After setting
up blanket surveillance in the area, investigators identified a
family residence in Cobb County, GA. A short time later
investigators witnessed Vega and a female that was believed to be a
family member exit the residence and enter a vehicle.
After following the pair to a local gas station, investigators
trapped the vehicle and extracted Vega from it; arresting him
without incident.
Vega was also wanted in California on both drug charges and a parole
violation. Additionally, Vega was considered to be armed and
dangerous and has a criminal history that includes numerous arrests
for armed robbery.
