THE LONE STAR FUGITIVE TASK FORCE ARRESTS FUGITIVE CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A CHILD

Lone Star Fugitive Task Force LogoSan Antonio – Today the United States Marshals Service sponsored Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) arrested 56 year old Arturo Abundis. Abundis was wanted by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for the felony charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

An arrest warrant was issued on November 9, 2007 charging Arturo Abundis with this offense. Abundis learned of the warrant and went on the run. The LSFTF was then contacted for additional assistance by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is a long term participating member agency of the LSFTF.

The LSFTF developed information Tuesday, November 13, 2007 that Abundis may be hiding out at a motel somewhere in the area of Military and Roosevelt and began to conduct surveillance in multiple locations. Abundis was eventually spotted about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2007, getting into a vehicle at one of the motels under surveillance. Members of the LSFTF began to covertly follow the vehicle until a SAPD Patrol Car was able to respond and assist in conducting a traffic stop. Abundis was taken into custody without incident.

The United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas LaFayette Collins said, “The charge of sexually abusing a child is one of the most horrific crimes in our society. The men and women of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force have in the past and will continue in the future to relentlessly pursue those that harm our children.”
