THE LONE STAR FUGITIVE TASK FORCE ARRESTS CHRISTOPHER JACKSON
MIDLAND
– When Christopher Lee Jackson went
missing, a lot of people became very concerned. With a previous
conviction of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, Jackson had been
ordered by the court to register as a sex offender in Ector County,
and to report any change of address to the probation office. Another
term of his release was that he not have contact with minor
children. Ector County Probation Officer Roy Harrison learned that
Jackson had disappeared, and may be with his girlfriend and her 12
year old daughter, which would be a violation of his sex offender
registration and state probation. Harrison called the U.S. Marshals
who head up the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, for help in locating
Jackson.
The Midland office of the task force works with member agencies
including the Midland and Odessa Police Departments, and the Midland
and Ector County Sheriff’s Offices, to track down and capture
violent offender fugitives. According to U.S. Marshals group
supervisor Phill Maxwell, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force places
these cases at the top of the priority list. “Any agency who asks
for our help in locating fugitive sex offenders immediately gets
thousands of investigators working the case. There is nowhere in the
country where these people can hide that we don’t have people
looking for them.”
Task Force agents located Jackson within a couple of hours after
picking up the case, and began surveillance to isolate his
movements. When U.S. Marshals saw him getting out of a car at his
girlfriend’s house in Midland, they, along with Midland Police
approached the residence and arrested Jackson without incident. His
girlfriend and her 12 year old daughter were also inside the house,
confirming the concerns of the probation office.
LaFayette Collins, U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Texas
said, “Our concern is to protect the community. Our families live
here as well, so we have a personal interest in taking violent
offenders off the street. We would not be able to do that without
the cooperation and teamwork of the many state and local member
agencies of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.”
