THE LONE STAR FUGITIVE TASK FORCE
OFFERS $5000.00 REWARD IN SHOOTING OF SAN ANTONIO POLICE OFFICER
San
Antonio – The United States Marshals Service sponsored Lone Star
Fugitive Task Force is offering up to a five thousand dollar reward
for information leading to the arrest of the suspect charged with
the Attempted Capital Murder of Veteran San Antonio Police Officer,
Richard Ruiz.
On Thursday, July 26, 2007 at approximately 11:30 p.m., San Antonio
Police Officer Richard Ruiz responded to a disturbance call at 4243
W. Commerce, San Antonio, Texas. Upon arrival, Officer Ruiz
approached a man identified as 30 year old
Jose Miguel Gonzalez.
While Officer Ruiz approached, Gonzalez opened fire with a handgun
on Officer Ruiz, striking Officer Ruiz at least twice before running
away. Officer Ruiz was able to call for assistance on his police
radio and was later transported to the hospital for gunshot wounds.
Gonzalez fled the scene and has not been seen by law enforcement
since.

The United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas
LaFayette Collins said, “First and foremost, our prayers go out to
the family of Officer Ruiz and we wish him a speedy and full
recovery. Secondly, this cowardly act against one of the heroes of
society will not be tolerated. The United States Marshals Service
and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force will tirelessly partner with
our brothers and sisters from the San Antonio Police Department and
all the other law enforcement agencies in Texas and out of Texas if
necessary, to track down and arrest this individual.”
