GUNMAN ARRESTED OUTSIDE THE WACO FEDERAL COURTHOUSE
Waco, TX
---
The United States Federal Courthouse is guarded by
some of the most high tech equipment available to today; however no
technical advancement will ever surpass the high standard of
vigilance provided by the men and women who work as a Court Security
Officer (CSO). Earlier this morning that dedication led to the
arrest of Jargen Kyle Thompson a fugitive wanted for aggravated
assault with a deadly weapon and burglary.
At about 8:00 on
the morning of May 11, 2007, a CSO, utilizing the buildings security
cameras, noticed Thompson brandishing a gun outside the Greyhound
Bus Station located directly behind the Federal Courthouse. The CSO
quickly notified the Deputy United States Marshals and the Waco
Police Department of the situation. Within minutes, Thompson was in
custody without further incident. Thompson had a Glock .45 caliber
handgun with a second fully loaded magazine with him. The gun had
been reported stolen in Louisiana. Thompson has an extensive
criminal history involving crimes of drugs and violence.
Thompson was
accompanied Julie Cook who was listed as a missing person in the
National Crime Information Center databank. Thompson initially gave
an alias which was supported by Cook. Deputies and Officers quickly
realized their true identities. Apparently Thompson and Cook had
traveled by bus from Biloxi, Mississippi to Waco, Texas.
United States
Marshal for the Western District of Texas LaFayette Collins said, “A
possible tragedy was adverted today by the sharp eyes and quick
response of our Court Security Team. The men and women who provide
security for federal courthouses are highly talented law enforcement
officers whose experiences are an invaluable tool in protecting the
courthouse and the court family.” |
