U.S. Marshals Task
Force Finds Wanted Felon Associated With Manslaughter of Teen
NICEVILLE, FL -The U.S.
Marshals North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force and members from
Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Alan Frazier Cox at
11:15 p.m. last night. Cox, 41, who was captured at a house on the
1000 block of Everglades Drive, is wanted by the Okaloosa County
Sheriff’s Office on two warrants, Possession of a Firearm by a
convicted Felon and for Possession of a Firearm by a Minor (Parental
Responsibility). Investigators followed several leads that brought
them to the residence where they spotted two vehicles that were
reported to both be driven by the fugitive. After the Task Force
announced their presence at the door, they were allowed entry by a
female who was reportedly Cox’s girlfriend. Deputies saw Cox trying
to hide in a bedroom and called him out. Cox was then arrested
without further incident.
Cox is wanted in relation to a shooting that occurred on March 4,
2007 at a house located at 1437 Cat Mar Road in Niceville. The
investigation conducted by the Sheriff’s Office charged Cox’s son,
Kerry Cox 14, with manslaughter after he accidentally shot the
victim, John Waller, 17 with a .243 caliber rifle according to
reports. Waller died from a single gunshot wound to his neck.
According to police reports and witnesses, this was Cox’s residence
and that there were numerous firearms within the house at all times;
and that Cox kept a fully loaded .22 caliber rifle in his bedroom.
The law states that in order for a convicted felon to be charged
with possession, he does not have to have it on his person. The law
also states that they cannot live in a dwelling where there are
guns. Kerry Cox turned himself in to authorities Friday morning.
Cox was transported to the Sheriff’s Office in Shalimar where he was
booked in and waiting to be transported to the County Jail. Cox has
no bond on either charge. |
