Road Construction Update

Edith/Montano Reconstruction Project June 2008

Construction to widen Edith Boulevard NE to five lanes from Candelaria Road NE to Montano Road NE (1.3 miles) started in January 2008. A.S. Horner, Bernalillo County’s construction contractor, is projecting the work to be completed by the end of November 2008, which is ahead of the contract completion date of January 15, 2009.
Since the two-lane traffic was shifted to the new pavement on the east side of the roadway in June 2008, work has been focused on the west side of Edith and consisted of mainly pavement removal and utility installation. New water line installations have been completed and the remaining sanitary sewer and storm drain line installations are scheduled to be completed by early October 2008. Approximately 25% of the curb and gutter have been placed on the west side of the roadway.

During the next several weeks, paving along the west side of the roadway will be scheduled periodically. Once placement of the bottom layer of asphalt is completed on the west side, a top layer of asphalt will be placed across the entire roadway. As segments of the west side paving are completed, there will be minor traffic shifts to allow a safe work area to construct the remaining sidewalk on the east side of Edith.

Please drive safely.
