The King County Solid Waste Division's "What do I do with...?" Web site was recognized yesterday by The Center for Digital Government. The site was presented with the "Digital Government Achievement Award" in the "Government to Citizen" category at an awards ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"The Digital Government Achievement Award" recognizes innovations in information technology that provide enhanced solutions and communications for citizens, businesses or educational communities.

"Our goal is to provide our customers with the most environmentally-friendly recycling options while promoting waste reduction, recycling and environmental issues," said Jay Beach of the King County Solid Waste Division. "This easy-to-use Web site continues to help us meet that goal."

To better assist customers with direct inquiries, King County's award-winning Web site provides a variety of answers to the frequently asked question of "What do I do with...?" Customers are able to choose an item from a simple drop-down menu and have instant access to a database containing hundreds of providers that accept many items for reuse, recycling or for proper disposal. Along with the Division's own Online Materials Exchange, the providers list also contains local, regional and national resources.
