Eleven Students From 18th District Are Selected |

WASHINGTON – Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, today announced the selection of 11 students from the 18th Congressional District for nomination to the class of 2008 at the Military Academy – West Point, the Naval Academy – Annapolis, or the Merchant Marine Academy – Kings Point.
"These young people represent the cream of the crop," Cardoza said. "The Valley should be proud to field such a distinguished group," Cardoza said. "I am confident that they all have the potential to win an appointment. Unfortunately, the applicant pool was competitive and only a limited number can be nominated." Those nominated by Cardoza are: Bradley Correa Golden Valley High School - Merced Anthony Thomas Golden Valley High School - Merced Bryan Souza Los Banos High School - Los Banos Marcos Nava Le Grand High School - Le Grand Ryan Riviere Buhach Colony High School - Atwater David Burris Ceres High School - Ceres Michael Withrow Central Catholic High School - Modesto Bryan Harden Thomas Downey High School - Modesto Dale Dualan Modesto High School - Modesto Luke Webster San Joaquin Delta College - Stockton Zatanee Maes San Joaquin Delta College - Stockton Cardoza’s Academy Selection Committee interviewed each applicant and made its recommendations to Cardoza last week. The selection of nominees is based on a composite of academic factors, including junior class rank and SAT scores, along with leadership potential.
