elected a Fellow of the Health Physics Society (HPS).
Leslie G. Fishbone works in the
Nonproliferation and National Security Department at Brookhaven National
Laboratory and has served in the MPC&A Program for more than a decade. (Article

Aleksey Bolotnikov, an associate
physicist in the Nonproliferation & National Security Department, has been
named the 2006 recipient of the Charles Hirsch Award, which is given
annually to a member of the Long Island Section of the Institute of
Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
Acts of terrorism have become almost daily occurrences in the international
news. Yet one of the most feared types of terrorism - nuclear
terrorism - has not yet happened. One important way of preventing
nuclear terrorism is to safeguard nuclear materials, and many people
worldwide work continuously to achieve that goal.
Physicist, Peter Vanier leads the Advanced Radiation Detector
group in the Detector Development and Testing Division of the
Nonproliferation and National Security Department. He is recognized
for outstanding contributions in demonstrating proof of principle of three
advanced radiation detector concepts for nonproliferation and homeland
security applications.
Joseph P. Indusi, Chair of the Nonproliferation and National Security
Department at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National
Laboratory, has been elected a Fellow of the Institute of Nuclear Materials
Management. The institute provides leadership and professional development
in nuclear materials management for a worldwide community of professionals
in the field. Currently, it has over 900 members, of which about three
percent are Fellows.

role in giving technical advice in this area since the late 1960s.
