 The Adventure Guide for Teens is a 16-page color booklet that introduces youth to the Appalachian Trail within this park. Topics include plate tectonics and the formation of the Appalachian chain, planning a day-hike, "leave-no-trace" backpacking, wildlife, and the reflections of a "thru-hiker." Those who successfully complete and turn in the booklet earn an Appalachian Trail patch and junior ranger rocker. (left)
1. Pick up the booklet from a visitor center or park headquarters, or contact the park to ask for one to be mailed to you.
2. Return the completed booklet to a visitor center to check your answers with a ranger and to get your patch and rocker.

 

The Adventure Guide for Teens is available free by contacting the park . It can also be downloaded in sections (pdf files maximum 283KB).

Did You Know?
... that hemlock groves in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area are threatened by a non-native insect, the hemlock woolly adelgid. Hemlocks provide shade for spectacular rhodondenron, for trout streams, and for native wildflowers. As hemlocks weaken and die, they are cut down for your safety.
