Energy, Environment, and Economic Analysis Group

The Energy, Environment and Economic Analysis Group (EEEAG) provides technical expertise and analytical support for integrated energy planning programs. Services include program assessment, policy analysis, energy and water technology assessment, environmental planning, and economic analysis. In particular, EEEAG is home to the MARKet ALlocation (MARKAL) family of models, developed by Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) to support long-term strategic energy planning. More than 55 countries utilize the MARKAL model in support of energy and environmental planning. Current EEEAG clients include several U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) offices, as well as other federal agencies, local governments, foreign countries, and others. EEEAG also oversees the participation of BNL in the multi-laboratory Energy Water Technology Program.

One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE’s Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited-liability company founded by Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities, and Battelle, a nonprofit, applied science and technology organization.
