ACTION: Notice of public meeting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: The Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Fishery Management Councils will convene a joint meeting of their Mackerel Stock Assessment Panel (MSAP). DATES: This meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 29, and conclude by on Thursday, April 1, 1999. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Fishery Management Councils will convene their joint MSAP to review stock assessment updates for the Gulf and Atlantic migratory groups of king and Spanish mackerel. The MSAP will consider available information, including but not limited to, commercial and recreational catches, natural and fishing mortality estimates, recruitment, fishery- dependent and fishery-independent data, and data needs. These analyses will be used to determine the condition of the stocks and the levels of acceptable biological catch (ABC) for the 1999-2000 fishing year. The MSAP may also review estimates of stock size (biomass at maximum sustainable yield [Bmsy]) and minimum stock size thresholds (MSST) for each species. Although other issues not on the agenda may come before the Panel for discussion, in accordance with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, those issues may not be the subject of formal action during this meeting. Action will be restricted to those issues specifically identified in the agenda listed in this notice. Special Accommodations This meeting is physically accessible to people with disabilities.
