[Federal Register: February 11, 1999 (Volume 64, Number 28)] [Notices] [Page 6916] From the Federal Register Online via GPO Access [wais.access.gpo.gov] [DOCID:fr11fe99-96] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DEPARTMENT OF LABOR Employment and Training Administration [TA-W-34,811] GE Lighting, Providence Base Plant, Providence, Rhode Island; Notice of Revised Determination on Reopening On January 14, 1999, the International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Technical, Salaried, and Machine Workers, AFL-CIO, requested administrative reconsideration of the Department's Negative Determination Regarding Eligibility To Apply For Worker Adjustment Assistance for workers and former workers of the GE Lighting, Providence Base Plant, Providence, Rhode Island. The initial investigation resulted in a negative determination issued on October 23, 1998, because imports did not contribute importantly to the worker separations. The notice was published in the Federal Register on December 16, 1998 (63 FR 69312). New information submitted to the Department by the subject firm indicates that the company has shifted production to Mexico and is importing into the U.S. like or directly competitive articles which were previously produced at the subject facility. Conclusion After careful consideration of the new facts obtained on reopening, it is concluded that increased imports of articles like or directly competitive with lamp bases produced by the subject firm contributed importantly to the decline in sales and to the total or partial separation of workers of the subject firm. In accordance with the provisions of the Trade Act of 1974, I make the following revised determination: All workers of GE Lighting, Providence Base Plant, Providence, Rhode Island who became totally or partially separated from employment on or after July 14, 1997 through two years from the date of certification are eligible to apply for adjustment assistance under Section 223 of the Trade Act of 1974. Signed at Washington, DC, this 29th day of January 1999. Grant D. Beale, Acting Director, Office of Trade Adjustment Assistance. [FR Doc. 99-3379 Filed 2-10-99; 8:45 am] BILLING CODE 4510-30-M
