Description of Application: Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District (licensee) filed notice of its action acquiring about 4,037 acres of land on the Platte River known as Jeffrey Island between Lexington and Kearney, Nebraska. The licensee has entered into a lease/purchase agreement to acquire the lands and satisfy the requirements of articles 417 and 418 of its license for the Kingsley Dam Hydroelectric Project. These lands will be managed under a land management plan (to be developed later) to improve habitat for whooping cranes, piping plovers, least terns, sandhill cranes and other wildlife. 1. In determining the appropriate action to take, the Commission will consider all protests or other comments filed, but only those who file a motion to intervene in accordance with the Commission's Rules may become a party to the proceeding.
