ACTION: Notice of extension of public comment period. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is announcing the extension of the public comment period for the draft Health Assessment Document for Diesel Emissions (EPA/600/8-90/057D, November 1999). The document was prepared by the National Center for Environmental Assessment Office (NCEA) within EPA's Office of Research and Development. DATES: In the November 15, 1999, Federal Register (64 FR 61875), EPA announced a limited public comment period through December 17, 1999. The Agency is now extending the public comment period to January 28, 2000. Comments must be in writing and must be postmarked by January 28, 2000. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: This revised draft assessment updates two earlier drafts (1998 and 1994) and focuses on health hazards (hazard identification and dose-response analysis for the purpose of characterizing the risk of diesel exhaust exposure), and also provides background information about diesel engine emissions and exposure that is useful for putting the health information into context. EPA risk assessment methods and practices have been followed in identifying possible human chronic health hazards for adverse [[Page 71752]] noncancer effects as well as carcinogenicity hazards. The Diesel Review Panel of the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) of the Science Advisory Board met on December 1, 1999, to review this draft Health Assessment Document for Diesel Emissions.
