ACTION: Emergency closure of public lands and access roads in Jackson and Josephine Counties, Oregon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that certain public lands in Jackson and Josephine Counties, Oregon, are hereby temporarily closed to all public use, including vehicle operation and sightseeing from August 5, 1999 until this notice is rescinded. The closure is made under the authority of 43 CFR 9268.3(d)(1)(1) and 8364.1(a). The public lands affected by this emergency closure are specifically identified as follows: Sections 20, 29, 30, 31: T. 38 S., R. 4 W., Willamette Meridian, Jackson County Sections 6, 7: T. 39 S., R. 4 W., Willamette Meridian, Jackson County Sections 1, 12, 13: T. 39 S., R. 5 W., Willamette Meridian, Josephine County The following persons, operating within the scope of their official duties, are exempt from the provisions of this closure order: Bureau employees; state, [[Page 44042]] local and federal law enforcement and fire protection personnel; and the holders of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) permits and/or contracts. Access by additional parties may be allowed, but must be approved by the Authorized Officer or their representative. Any person who fails to comply with the provisions of this closure order may be subject to the penalties provided in 43 CFR 8360.0-7, which include a fine not to exceed 12 months, as well as the penalties provided under Oregon State law. The public land is temporarily closed to unauthorized public use under this order and will be posted with signs at points of public access. The purpose of this emergency temporary closure is to protect persons from potential harm and protect valuable public property from unauthorized abuse.
