ACTION: Notice of public meeting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: The Pacific Fishery Management Council's (Council) Ad-Hoc Marine Reserve Committee will hold a meeting which is open to the public. DATES: The meeting will begin on Tuesday, May 11 at 8 a.m. and will continue through 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 12. The Tuesday session may go into the evening until business for the day is completed. The Thursday session will begin at 8 a.m. An opportunity for public comment will be provided on Wednesday. ADDRESSES: The meeting will be held in the Multnomah Falls Room of the Doubletree Hotel Downtown, 310 SW Lincoln Avenue, Portland OR 97201. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The purpose of the meeting is to identify objectives for marine reserve options to be presented to the Council. Based on the objectives, the committee may begin work on design characteristics. The first day of the meeting will be taken up largely by technical presentations. This meeting is an early step in the first phase of a two-phase process for Council consideration of marine reserves. The first phase involves the conceptual evaluation of marine reserves as a tool for Council management and will culminate with a Council decision on whether or not to develop site-specific fully specified proposals for marine reserves. Although other issues not contained in this agenda may come before the committee for discussion, in accordance with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, those issues will not be the subject of formal committee action during this meeting.
