Agenda: The committee will discuss postmarketing studies of Genzyme Corporation's Carticel (autologous chondrocytes manipulated ex-vivo for structural repair) indicated for treatment and repair of clinically significant, articular cartilage defects in the knee. The discussion will focus on issues specific to these studies and on more general ones related to the feasibility of randomized controlled trials in the field of orthopaedics. Procedure: On November 5, 1999, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the meeting is open to the public. Interested persons may present data, information, or views, orally or in writing, on issues pending before the committee. Written submissions may be made to the contact person by November 1, 1999. Oral presentations from the public will be scheduled between approximately 8:45 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. and between approximately 1:00 p.m and 1:30 p.m. Time allotted for each presentation may be limited.
