The Western Human Nutrition Research Center strives to improve the health of all Americans by: creating and testing nutrition interventions to improve health; assessing how an individual's environment and genetics affect nutrient metabolism; and providing reliable and reproducible research results for the development of national nutrition policies.
Over the next five years, the Research Scientists at the WHNRC plan to strengthen and re-orientate the Center's research program to focus on:
- Influence of Dietary Fatty Acids on Human Health with Emphasis on Immune and Inflammatory Responses
- Micronutrients and Immune Function
- Reduction of Prostate Cancer Risk through Nutrition
- Dietary Patterns, Mineral, and Vitamin Metabolism
- Internal and External Factors Affecting Food Intake and Body Weight
