SUMMARY: Notice is given that public lands west of Deer Run Road along the Carson River in Carson City, Nevada are closed to motorized vehicle use except on the designated access road and trailhead parking area. EFFECTIVE DATES: This closure goes into effect on August 15, 1998. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The lands included in this closure are those public lands west of Deer Run Road within Mt. Diablo Meridian, Sections 11 and 14, T. 15 N., R. 20 E. This closure does not apply to the existing mining occupancy in south portion of Section 14, or legitimate operations conducted under the mining laws. The closure does not apply to emergency, law enforcement, or agency vehicles on official business. This order is consistent with the Bureau of Land Management October, 1996 Carson City Urban Interface Plan Amendment, and the Carson City 1996 Carson River Master Plan to enhance nonmotorized uses and protect the river environment. The authorities for this closure are 43 CFR 8342.1 and 8364.1. Any person failing to comply with the closure may be subject to imprisonment for not more than 12 months, or a fine in accordance with the applicable provisions of 18 U.S.C. 3571, or both.
