SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: This invention relates to a method, an apparatus, and kit for performing purification of nucleic acids, proteins and cells. More specifically, the invention relates to an apparatus and methods for purification and concentration of nucleic acids, proteins (e.g., antigens and antibodies) and cells without the need of centrifigation, precipitation or lengthy incubations. The apparatus and methods can be adapted to non-specific or specific capture of nucleic acids, proteins or cells in a biological or environmental samples and can be adapted for detection of the captured moiety by enzymatic colorimetric, fluorescent, luminescent or electrochemical formats with or without nucleic acids amplication.
