The Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site offers many special presentations during class field trips. There are demonstrations of log hewing, stone cutting, coal mining and musket firing. The park has rangers in period costume that will take students throughout the park. There are also many exhibits, a movie, and the historic Lemon House and Engine House Exhibit Shelter to explore.

Did You Know?
The dam at South Fork, PA, that broke causing the Johnstown Flood of 1889 was originally built for the Mainline Canal System. The Allegheny Portage Railroad was an important part of the Mainline, so the stories are interconnected.
