Research Project: PREHARVEST CONTROL OF AFLATOXIN Project Number: 0500-00029-001-00

Objective:
Prevent aflatoxin contamination in preharvest peanuts, corn, cottonseed and treenuts.

Approach:
1) To incorporate resistance to preharvest infection and aflatoxin production by Aspergillus flavus/parasiticus into regionally adapted and accepted crop lines. 2) To prevent aflatoxin contamination of cultivated crops by introducing into field environments suitable competing microorganisms having the ability to exclude native aflatoxin producing fungi from cultivated crops. Original start and termination dates 3/1/93 thru 3/1/98. Extended for an additional 5 years from 03/01/98-02/28/03. Changing start and term dates from 3/1/03-2/28/08.
