Research Project: HYDRAULIC PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF SLOPED CONVERGING SIDEWALLS FOR RCC STEPPED SPILLWAYS

Location: Hydraulic Engineering Research

Project Number: 6217-13000-008-24
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 01, 2007
End Date: Aug 31, 2010

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to increase the general and fundamental knowledge related to the use and design of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) stepped spillways as a rehabilitation option for increasing discharge of flood control structures.

Approach:
ARS-HERU and OSU will work together to document the present state of science related to convergence of RCC stepped and smooth chute spillways. The work will be carried out by conducting physical scale model tests on RCC stepped and smooth converging spillway side slopes. A generalized equation for determining required dimensions of smooth converging spillway side-slopes will be developed based on test results.
